Mountaineers basic alpine climbing course. Class starts on December 5, 2023 following by our first field trip shortly afterwards. The course curriculum includes both evening lectures and all day field trips and a minimum of three basic experience climbs. Baker for a thorough introduction to glacier travel, crevasse rescue, self-arrest, and movement on snow and ice. Welcome to the Basic Mountaineering Course. If big, glacier-clad mountains are what interest you, try one of the following courses for the best general introductions to mountain climbing. On these courses, you'll learn the basics like knots and hardware, self-arrest with an ice-axe, glacier travel, and crevasse rescue. Basic Climbing Course graduates must demonstrate competence in the course contents, have adequate physical conditioning for alpine climbing, and satisfactorily complete at least two basic climbs, including one Basic Rock and one Basic Glacier. Our rock courses range from learning how to belay to leading sport routes to learning how to place pro and climb advanced trad routes. This course provides a general introduction to the sport of mountain climbing, including one day of rock climbing and five days on Mt. .
